Evaluation Activity 2.

In my opening scene for Release Date there is a representation of a particular social group. A social group are  people sharing some social relationThe social group in my film release date are young black youths, just like the social group in '1Day'.

Here we have Jayde from Release Date. Jayde's half brother is being released from jail and is expecting his little

half brother Jayde to pick him up and wants the £500,000 he's left with Jayde. Jayde is £3,000 short of the full amount and is pushed for time, Jayde is forced to return to his old life style he left behind in order to raise the money. One day follows flash's race against the clock as he's pursued by his girlfriend, who does not want him to go back into this cycle.

Here we have Flash from 1Day. Flash wakes up to a phone call from Angel announcing that he's being released and wants the £500,000 he's left Flash for safekeeping. Flash is £100,000 short of the full amount and is pushed for time, Flash is forced to strike a deal with Evil who more than lives up to his name. One day follows flash's race against the clock as he's pursued by a rival gang (The Zampa Boys), As Flash is part of OSC (Old Street Crew). He is also pressured by his three irate baby-mothers and his granny.

From the picture above, we can see that both the characters wear similar clothing. Both Flash and Jayde are wearing a hat and loosely fitted clothing, however Flash is wearing dark colours suggesting he is deeply involved in the crime life whereas Jayde is wearing neutral colours suggesting he is in between good and bad. In addition, both of their clothing represents the stereotypical views of what gang members look like.

Evaluation Activity 7.

Editing has shown me that it takes a lot of hard work and concentration. Looking back at my preliminary task i feel like i have learnt a lot of new things in the progression from it to the full product.

First of all i can now say i have learnt a very important thing. I have learnt and realised that the camera and the way a film has been edit can tell a story before words are even been spoken.

Improvement on Zoom.

I would say my biggest improvement was my use of zoom.
In my preliminary task i used zoom to show that Jayde was trying to escapes but however the zoom was rough and shakey. however i improved massively in my film as i zoomed in to his eyes, to make an effect that we the audience is going into his head, and it worked as it was steady, as i zoomed in slowly.

In addition my editing skills improved massivlely. i learnt how to blend muic, increase sound and decrease them. I've also learnt how to make new scences look more realistic. I have had a great time editing my opening sequence and would love to do it again.

Evaluation 3.

Evaluation Activity 1.

The title of our film is called 'Realse Date'. We as a group decided to call it this as we thought straight away without even seeing the movie it already set off to our audience a idea of what the film was going to be about. We also decided to call it this because the story happens all in one day, the day Thomas gets realsed. And thridly the reason why we called it this was because every title has a significant meaning, ans we thought calling it Realse Date it would bring attention to this one day, and give a tension about this day, if this day was gonna be the realse of something good or something so bad.

We decided to set Realse Date in the depride area of London as we needed the genre of our film to match the location, so we set Realse Date in Hackney (Stoke Newighton) East london. So we need an area to show estate which tells us it is an working class environment, leading to a high population of crime.

In the opening scene of Release Date we wanted to give away the story without giving it away, and introduce our characters through Mese-en-scense. In the opening scene we are introuduced to two characters.

Both characters are have their head covers to suggest that they are involved with crime, and both in tracksuits bottom. This tells the audience there are crime related without even watching the whole film.
Here we used two jesus's piece to represent good and evil. Thomas is wearing a black jesus piece whilst Jayde is wearing a white jesus piece telling us the audience that Thomas is more involved in the crime life and has a negative impact on Jayde.

For my titles, i used a cold blue kind of colour and hard brick front. The brick front was meant to implie crime while the cold blue colour was there juxtapose the front use, as the cold blue made it more deeper than it is.

The film begins with Jayde looking at a bag with deep concentration, suggesting to the audience that this bag is of some importance.

Then a cut in to a flash back, joining the flash back to this bag as we see the bag continously in the flash back.

And then we see it continuously in the present time, giving the audience the information that this bag is of importance to this character and has always been of importance to this character.

In the opening scene the characters are introduced one in an deep, focused way and the other in a way that conform to the dominate ideology of young black males.

Jayde

Thomas

However we are introduced too Thomas only in the flash back suggesting that he is of none existence somehow. but has a close relationship to Jayde.

Evaluation Activity 6.

Through out my time on this course, i have learnt about different technologies from the process of constructing my opening film Release Date.

I used various technologies and online computer programmes to edit and record my preliminary task and my movie Release Date, which consisted of:

Apple Mac Computers.
FINAL CUT EXPRESS EDITING SOFTWARE

I used final cut express to edit all of my video footage such as my main task, preliminary task, recce, storyboard fight scene, audience interview etc. I found this software quite tricky to use at first as there were so much techniques to learn.

Youtube came in very handy. I used youtube to upload all my video footage such as my recce, preliminary task, diary entries, audience interview and storyboard fight scene. I learnt how to the export videos from final cut into quick time movies so they could be uploaded onto youtube.

Evaluation Activity 5.

Evaluation Activity 4.

Who would be the audience for your media production?

The genre for my film 'Release Date' is action/crime. so simply due to the genre alone, i would say our audience will be teenagers, how ever not all teenagers are interested in the same thing. so i would say teenagers in the deprived areas of London.

Name: Dujuane Chapman.
Age: 19
Location: Tottenham.
Occupation: Working in New Look.
College: Haringey Sixth form Center.

Dujuane's favourite genre is Action and Thriller. He shops in the local high street and his favourite type of music is Grime. His favourite type of tv programme is Dub-plate drama.

Dujuane states  "I would watch your film, simply because its something i can relate to, and also because i love action movies. There is not a lot of British movies in the UK today, so thats another reason why i would go watch release date but the main reason is because of your key selling point, the fact that he could live such a life style and not die in the end but how ever turn his life around and succeed in life, makes me feel postive about myself and every other youth living in deprived area's that there is hope for all of us."

Name: Sharon Charles
Age: 18
Location: Edmonton.
Occupation: Student.
College: Leyton Sixth form.

Sharon's favourite genre is Action, Comedy And Romance. She shops in the local high street and her favored's type of music is Slow Jams. Her favorite type of tv programme is 'My Wife And Kids' and ' Fresh Prince Of Bail air'.

Sharon quotes "I would love to watch 'Release Date' because from what I've heard about this film, it has found a way to mix both of my two favorite genre's (romance and comedy) as it is not just a movie about crime but also a juxtapose with emotions, and as a girl this has attracted me. Also because 1 out of 5 Household families in the UK would go through a similar situation and not know how to handle it, but by watching the movie Release Date' it shows them how not to handle certain situation. For example when Thomas told Jayde to rob the bank which was wrong, however in certain parts it shows them how to handle a similar situation. For example when Thomas trusted his blood brother to look after the money instead of giving outside friends "Blood is thicker than water".'

Audience Types

Audience is an very important aspect to the media industry, as without and auience the media insdustry would fail. There are various types of audience.

Mainstream consist of a large audeince/ the majority that listen or watch one thing. Example would be Salt, Takers, Sherk Etc.

Cult consits of a small, loyal group of people following a particular media text. Example Godzilla, saw, a nightmare on elm street etc.

Subversive consist of an audience that watch controversial media texts that could offend. Examples would be Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park. Etc

Abstract is when the understanding is based on the reader as there is no narrative, so the reader creates the narrater. Example would be Eraser Head.

Alternative is different from mainstrem, audience enjoy media texts that are similar to mainstream media texts, but differ in various ways.

Release Date is rated 15 and i expect the audience for our movie to be more of cult, simply because our movie is directed to a particual audience, and not really to the older generation.

180 Degree Rule.

The 180 Degree Rule

The 180 Degree Rule is a guideline on making sure that two characters are always on the same left/right relationship to each other, it is normally used in talking converstations when two people are facing directly opposite each other. The 18o Degree Rule helps the audience to visually connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate subject. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle
However.....

The 180 Degree Rule does not always have to be followed and some directors break it to cause disorientation. An example is when Christopher Nolan controversially broke this rule, in The Dark Knight in the interogation scene between the Joker and Batman.

In this scene the director is trying to how that these to characters are not as different as Batman would like to believe, and that the Joker does still have some control even though he is the one being interrogated. Furthermore, in the conversation between the two characters the Joker say's 'tonight you're gonna break your own rule'. This phrase directly links to the 180 degree rule being broken, making it cleverly fitting to the scene.

Introduction To Editing.

For my first pratice taske, we had to film a fighting sence using differnt camara angeles, so we could get use to it and how to editi and put it together.

This was my first time filming and editing.

Final Cut Express
For my first time ever editing , we were assigned to use final cut express. We where then taught    how to upload our footage on to final cut so that we could begin to edit.
  • First we had to connect the video recorder to the apple mac.
  • Then we had to set the setting, to the setting of the camera.
  • Then we had to click on file and system set up and choose where we want it to save.
  • Then we had to click on file and the press capture.

I learnt how to edit using final cut express, on this i learnt how to inpoint(where you want your edit to start from) and how to output (where you want your clip to stop). I also learnt howe to drag clips onto a time lime, alter a sound, use colour correction, makes clips blend, add titiles. etc.

Hard Candy And Love Dont Cost A Thing Camera Shots And Film Analysis.

Hard Candy Rated 18.

Hard Candy is a 2005 psychological thriller film focusing on the confrontation between an assumed sexual predator and a not so innocent 14-year-old girl.

The movie starts of straight away with a point of view shot, as we see a flirtatious online conversation between a male and a female, we know this as the converstation colours is written in 'blue' for boys and 'pink' for girls. We later then see a close up shot of a chocolate cake to grab our attention and indicate something sexual. As the camara zooms out we see an establishing shot so that we are in a cafe. As we see the little girl and the older man, the actors are now being filmed on the same eyelevel showing there equal power, then gradually the camamra starts shiffting its angle as the older man becomes straryes and then changes straight back to a two shot showing the relationship between the older man and the younger girl
Later.......
We are in a room with the walls paintes red and blue, red to signify danger. we see the same man from the cafe now tied to table, there is now a low angle shot of the younger girl showing she is now in power. As the younger girl starts to cut the older mans pubic area we then see a close up shot of the older man to show his emotions as he is in serious pain, and he is postioned against the red backround as stated before to show danger.

Love Don't Cost A Thing Rated 15.

Love Dont Cost A Thing is a 2003 teen comedy film based on the 1987 film Can't Buy Me Love.

Mid-way through the film Paris tries to convert elvin, and during this scence there is various types of shots being used. There is a cut away shot to move us into a new scence then we see a two-shot of both the characters followed by an extreme close up shot of Elvin face to see the pain he is going through, signifying that beauty is pain. We later see a cut in of Elvin hands, making the audience focus on his hand movements, then we see another cut in of her body to entertain the male audience followed by another two shot angle showinmg us the relationship between the two characters and then moves in to a close up shot of paris to shows her emotion.

Brief.

For  my As media coursework i have been asked to complete two tasks;

Task One: Preliminary Exercise.

For our preliminary task it involved filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task is meant to demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 - degree rule

Task Two: Main Task.

For our main task we had to make a opening scence to a new fiction film, with the titles which should only last two minutes. All video and audio material had to be original (made by us the students) produced by the candidate(s), however the music and audio effects could be taken from a copyright-free source.

We where then put into groups of four to complete both tasks.

Diary Entries.

Similar Text.

1day
1day Is a movie set in Birmingham’s black community it tells the familiar story of a drug dealer thearted with death if he doesn't repay within three hours the £500,000 he's been holding for a fellow criminal just released from jail. The Birmingham police have attempted to have the film banned for its apparent aggrandisement of its characters and their way of life: understandable but misguided.

One day and our movie Release Date is similar as both our movies happen in one day, the audience is the same, b
oth movies revolves around crime, there both British movies, and also revolve around our everyday life.

Bullet Boy
Bullet Boy tells the a story about a boy (Ricky) who is just released from a young offenders' institute and determined to go straight. Instead, he heads into trouble when he becomes involved in a street clash and sides with his best friend Wisdom against a local gang member. The trouble escalates into a series of incidents that threaten to spiral out of control. Ricky's 12-year-old brother Curtis, adores Ricky but seems smart enough to know he doesn't want to follow his example. However, despite the warnings from his mother, Ricky's bad boy appeal might prove to be too attractive for Curtis to resist.

Bullet boy and our movie Release Date is similar as both movies have the same audience, both movies revolves around crime, there both British movies and both stories include what happen in our everyday life.

We decided to chose Bullet Boy because it revolved around our everyday life and One Day as it all happened all in one day. The key sence in One day which helped us with our movie was the whole idea of a boy leaving his money with someone who was close to him before going to jail and when the boy comes out of jail, the person who he left the money with does not have the complete money.
