Hard Candy And Love Dont Cost A Thing Camera Shots And Film Analysis.

Hard Candy Rated 18.

Hard Candy is a 2005 psychological thriller film focusing on the confrontation between an assumed sexual predator and a not so innocent 14-year-old girl.

The movie starts of straight away with a point of view shot, as we see a flirtatious online conversation between a male and a female, we know this as the converstation colours is written in 'blue' for boys and 'pink' for girls. We later then see a close up shot of a chocolate cake to grab our attention and indicate something sexual. As the camara zooms out we see an establishing shot so that we are in a cafe. As we see the little girl and the older man, the actors are now being filmed on the same eyelevel showing there equal power, then gradually the camamra starts shiffting its angle as the older man becomes straryes and then changes straight back to a two shot showing the relationship between the older man and the younger girl
Later.......
We are in a room with the walls paintes red and blue, red to signify danger. we see the same man from the cafe now tied to table, there is now a low angle shot of the younger girl showing she is now in power. As the younger girl starts to cut the older mans pubic area we then see a close up shot of the older man to show his emotions as he is in serious pain, and he is postioned against the red backround as stated before to show danger.

Love Don't Cost A Thing Rated 15.

Love Dont Cost A Thing is a 2003 teen comedy film based on the 1987 film Can't Buy Me Love.

Mid-way through the film Paris tries to convert elvin, and during this scence there is various types of shots being used. There is a cut away shot to move us into a new scence then we see a two-shot of both the characters followed by an extreme close up shot of Elvin face to see the pain he is going through, signifying that beauty is pain. We later see a cut in of Elvin hands, making the audience focus on his hand movements, then we see another cut in of her body to entertain the male audience followed by another two shot angle showinmg us the relationship between the two characters and then moves in to a close up shot of paris to shows her emotion.

Brief.

For  my As media coursework i have been asked to complete two tasks;

Task One: Preliminary Exercise.

For our preliminary task it involved filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task is meant to demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 - degree rule

Task Two: Main Task.

For our main task we had to make a opening scence to a new fiction film, with the titles which should only last two minutes. All video and audio material had to be original (made by us the students) produced by the candidate(s), however the music and audio effects could be taken from a copyright-free source.

We where then put into groups of four to complete both tasks.

1day
1day Is a movie set in Birmingham’s black community it tells the familiar story of a drug dealer thearted with death if he doesn't repay within three hours the £500,000 he's been holding for a fellow criminal just released from jail. The Birmingham police have attempted to have the film banned for its apparent aggrandisement of its characters and their way of life: understandable but misguided.

One day and our movie Release Date is similar as both our movies happen in one day, the audience is the same, b
oth movies revolves around crime, there both British movies, and also revolve around our everyday life.

Bullet Boy
Bullet Boy tells the a story about a boy (Ricky) who is just released from a young offenders' institute and determined to go straight. Instead, he heads into trouble when he becomes involved in a street clash and sides with his best friend Wisdom against a local gang member. The trouble escalates into a series of incidents that threaten to spiral out of control. Ricky's 12-year-old brother Curtis, adores Ricky but seems smart enough to know he doesn't want to follow his example. However, despite the warnings from his mother, Ricky's bad boy appeal might prove to be too attractive for Curtis to resist.

Bullet boy and our movie Release Date is similar as both movies have the same audience, both movies revolves around crime, there both British movies and both stories include what happen in our everyday life.

We decided to chose Bullet Boy because it revolved around our everyday life and One Day as it all happened all in one day. The key sence in One day which helped us with our movie was the whole idea of a boy leaving his money with someone who was close to him before going to jail and when the boy comes out of jail, the person who he left the money with does not have the complete money.

Animatics / StoryBoards.

Animatics?
An animatic is a moving story board.

Story Board?
A story board is a graphic organizers. For example a series of illustrated images displayed in sequence.

Why Is It Needed?
  • A story Board helps to pre-visualize a motion, animation, motion, graphic or interactive media sequence.
  • Saves money and time
  • A preview on how the script flows.
  • Animatics helps to test whether the sound and images are working together effectively.

This is the story board for our opening scence to our movie 'Release Date'. In order to put this story board together, we had to think of what shots we wanted, if we wanted a close up shot, wide shot, point of view, over the shouder shot etc.

What Equipments Are You Using?

Equipments.

This is the kitchen scene, however this has been taken out of our piece.

These where to two jesus piece that we used, white to represent good, and black to represent bad.

This is the bag where the money was put in.

This is where we shot the bed room scene.

This camera was used to take pictures of our story boards, our location, props, etc.

This video recorder was used to record our footage, some of our diary entries, our animatic etc.
This tripod was used to hold up our camera and alternate the different level of the camera.

This is one of the location in our filming, This was the dead end sence, we filmed through the gate to show that they were trapped and that their was no way out.

This steps was used in the flashback scene. This is where we placed the camera, and made the two characters jump over the camera.

This is the rest of the location that we used for the flash back scene.

Recce

A Recce is a practice run of your fim for diractors to practice their scense, camara angles and then make progress. This done because it save alot more money, and saves time. For example instead of doing test runs on the actual site you could just film

An example of how a director used a recce was in Reservoir Dogs.
In the recce of Reservoir Dogs,Tarrintino placed the camera on the floor and did not move it from any postiton. In this scene there was three characters, one who was in pain, and two other characters who continously moved about conersating with each other. This did not work for me, as i could not relate to any of the actors in this sence, especial the actor who was meant to be in  pain, also i did not find it interesting at all.

Tarrintino now used this recce to improve this sence, he now moved the camara and used  various of shots, i felt this was a massive improvement as i now got to relate to the characters, and feel sympthany for the actor who was in pain, as he got a close up shot of the man.

Our Recce

For our recce we decided to film our prison sense. However when watching back on this, we decided that the prison sense was not working, and was not even needed.
